Administrative History
The Alpha Reading Club formed in 1901 at the home of Mrs. John Zeeveld, of Laburnum Crescent, Rochester. It's motto was established as "Hitch Your Wagon To A Star." The club met in members' homes or in public spaces around the Rochester area. A reading and study club, it established an annual program for its members, and focused on a single topic for each year. Members presented papers to the club at lunch meetings. The club continued to meet regularly for many years. However, declining membership finally led to its disbandment in November of 1992.
