This collection consists of the papers collected by Pam Barres, a Rochester area LBGTQ advocate. The materials date between 1990 and 1996. The materials consist of newspaper articles regarding same-sex adoption, as well as, newsletters and journals from the transgender community.

Biographical Note
Pamela Barres was born in Rochester, New York in 1942 as an only child in a middle class family. Barres contributed greatly to Rochester's transgendered community, and the larger LGBT community, by co-facilitating the CD Network and the Rochester Trans Group. She also served as the interim director of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, was an active member of the Empire State Pride Agenda Political Action Committee, and was involved in Rochester Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE).

This project was made possible by a grant from the Documentary Heritage Program of the New York State Archives, a program of the State Education Department.
Processing Information
This collection came to the Local History and Genealogy Division from the GAGV on two separate dates. The first folder in the collection came as an envelope on August 11, 2016. The remaining folders were donated on February 2, 2017. After consulting with co-workers it was determined to combine both collections due to the small size of the collections and the same subject matter. All metal fasteners were removed and acidic papers were placed in individual envelopes.
