Administrative History

The Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Genesee Valley Chapter was founded on October 14, 1998 to perpetuate the memory of the sacrifices involved during the Battle of the Bulge; to preserve historical data and sites relating to the Battle of the Bulge; to foster international peace and goodwill; and to promote friendship among the survivors of the Battle of the Bulge and their descendants and associates in the Battle of the Bulge.

The Chapter consisted of elected officers; President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, appointed officers; Chaplain and Editor of the Chapter Newsletter, and members; veterans, veteran’s relatives, and honorary members. It also consisted of a Board of Directors made up of the current elected officials, the immediate past president, and three other members elected at large by the Chapter membership. Meetings were held monthly

The Chapter held monthly meetings at the Greece, New York Town Hall. The monthly meetings consisted of discussing chapter business, planning events, and hearing from a range of speakers that included congressmen, local politicians, veterans, and representatives from the Veteran’s Association. The Genesee Valley Chapter succeeded in getting a Battle of the Bulge monument erected in Charlotte, New York. They also protested the Democrat and Chronicle’s policy to charge fifteen dollars to print a flag next to veteran’s obituaries. The Chapter was successfully in their protest and the paper no longer charges for that service.

The Chapter was dissolved on December 16, 2009 due to the lack of interest from members and the deaths and illnesses of many members.
