Processing Information

The scrapbooks that are in excellent to good condition were wrapped in archival paper and tied with string. Scrapbooks that were in poor condition with all or most items loose were removed from the scrapbooks and placed in folders. The scrapbooks that were placed in folders were re-foldered in the exact order that they were in the scrapbooks, going from top to bottom, left to right. For the items that their original placement was unknown, the archivist used the tape markings and other markings to make an educated guess as to where the items were. The archivist removed tape and metal fasteners from the scrapbook items and also recorded names, places, dates, and events on all photographs using an archival quality pen. All newspaper clippings and other acidic paper types were interleaved or placed in envelopes.
