This collection consists of a single leaflet used as a text for Americanization courses taught in the Rochester City Schools during the 1920s. The leaflet includes basic information on the process of becoming a citizen, United States history, and civics. The leaflet itself is undated, but Charles E. Finch, who is identified on every page of the leaflet by title, held the title of Director of Immigrant Education from 1918 until at least 1931.

Administrative HIstory
The Rochester City School District, in partnership with the Women's Educational and Industrial Union, began offering Americanization courses to immigrants in 1918. These courses were taught, at least at first, by Charles E. Finch, who was both director of junior high schools for the Rochester City School District and director of Americanization work for the Chamber of Commerce. This leaflet identifies Mr. Finch as Director of Immigrant Education, a title he officially held with the school district until at least 1931.
