Administrative History

The Rochester Transit Corporation (RTC) operated the streetcar, rail and bus transit systems of Rochester, NY, from 1938 to 1968. Created after the failure of the Rochester Railway Company in 1929, the RTC inherited that company's rail and bus services around the City of Rochester. The company's formation was approved by the New York Public Service Commission in 1937, and all surface rail (trolley) service was eliminated by 1941. The company continued operating Rochester's bus system until 1968, when labor discord and a major strike by the company's employees led to City Council condemning and purchasing the tranist lines from the RTC in January of 1969.

This scrapbook records the activities of the Rochester Transit Corporation Twenty-Five Year Club, a veteran employee group founded in 1947. The group honored employees, held annual banquets, and provided recreational activities for its members. The scrapbook ends in 1954, but newspaper evidence shows that the Rochester Transit Corporation Twenty-Five Year Club survived until the RTC's demise in 1968.
