Biographical / Historical

The Day family had their origins in England. Earnest Sidney Day was born in 1891 in Wicken District of Cambridgeshire in Cambridge England. He immigrated to the United States in February 14th, 1912. He passed away in 1972. Sophia Rose Stieve was born in 1893 and died in 1968. She was a German-American from Rochester N.Y. Both her parents were born in Germany. Sophia and Earnest were married and had their first child Mildred on August 29, 1920, and their second Arthur on January 14, 1922. Arthur went on the study medicine at the University of Michigan. He was unhappily drafted into the military on October 30, 1943. Arthur died in Canandaigua on February 14, 1990. Mildred dated many fellows in war time on the home front. She had an unusual relationship with Carl Pond whom she expected to marry. It was never revealed why they did not wed. Charles Hall married her on December 11th 1948. They had one daughter named Christine on June 15, 1950.

Abstract

This collection contains a series of letters written to and from the Day family between the years of 1902-1958. The letters detail intimate and personal views of the family's life, especially living in the 1940's.

This collection consists of 2 boxes and 1 oversize folder.
