This collection contains papers and serials, books, serials, photographs, ephemera and 13 VHS tapes documenting the life and work of Ralph Carter. It reflects his involvement in numerous gay and civil rights organizations, with particular emphasis on his work with the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, Dignity-Integrity Rochester, Lambda Kodak and the Boy Scouts of America, Otetiana Council. These materials were created between 1984 and 2009, with the bulk dating between 2001 and 2009.

Biographical Note
Professional: Retired in 2018 as Senior Quality Analyst, Xerox Corporation following 39 years of service in various manufacturing and supply chain functions, including: Materials Acquisition, Demand/Supply Planning, Manufacturing Operations management, Engineering Projects management. Served on steering committee of Galaxe Pride at Work (Xerox's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group).

Abstract
This collection consists of the papers of Ralph Carter, a gay and civil rights activist in Rochester, New York. The papers date from 1984 to 2009, with the bulk from 2001 to 2009. The materials include personal and organizational papers, books, serials, pamphlets, photographs and VHS tapes.

Condition Description
All material in very good to excellent physical condition. Playability of VHS tapes has not been tested.
Processing Information
This collection was received with much of the original order intact. Material in plastic binders was removed from the binders to archival folders; folder names were taken from the binder title and the folders are numbered together as a subunit. All metal fasteners were removed, audio-visual materials are stored together, and small ephemera wrapped in envelopes and housed in a box.
