This collection documents the professional life of Hiram Haskell Edgerton from 1910 to 1921. During this time, Edgerton served as mayor of Rochester, New York. The collection consists of letters, telegrams and notes, most of which pertain to governmental or political activities.

Biographical Note
Hiram Haskell Edgerton was born on April 19, 1847 in Belfast, New York. His family moved to Rochester when he was 11 years old. He originally worked in the lumber business, then coal, and later became a building contractor. He began his political career in 1871 as a member of the School Board. Edgerton was a strong supporter of education and helped push, while on the Board, the creation of the Free Academy and School Number 15. In 1899, he was elected president of the Common Council, a position he held until being elected as mayor of the city of Rochester, New York. Edgerton was elected to the position of mayor sevem times and served from 1908 to 1922 in this position. He served as mayor during an important time in Rochester, such as World War I and the launch of the Subway. He died on June 18, 1922, several days after the death of his good friend, George W. Aldridge. Edgerton is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.
