Content Description
This collection documents the history of the Rochester Red Wings baseball team and its predecessors from 1877 to 1994. The collection includes rosters, articles and statistical information related to the Rochester Red Wings baseball, its predecessors and the individual players from these teams. The collector of this material assembled a comprehensive roster of professional baseball players who played for Rochester teams, with rich statistical data wherever possible (Rochester BB Player Register. This material takes the form of a four-volume, bound compendium. Copies of historical information from diverse primary and secondary sources are also included, particularly in the Research Guide and Red Wing Books elements of the collection.

Administrative History
Rochester, New York, has a long history of supporting professional baseball teams. Eight distinct teams are recognized by the current Red Wings as ancestors of the present team, with a ninth, even earlier, predecessor taking the origins of professional baseball in Rochester back to 1877. The current Red Wings name was adopted in 1929, during the team's affiliation with the St. Louis Cardinals major league baseball team. As a top-level minor team, Rochester has been associated with the Cardinals (1929-1960), the Baltimore Orioles (1961-2002) and the Minnesota Twins (2003-present[2019]). Rochester teams have won 10 Governors Cups (International League championship) and has won its division within the International League 21 times. It is notable that Rochester spent one year at the Major League level; the 1890 team had a 63-63 record in the American Association.

Abstract
This collection consists of historical and statistical material collected on the Rochester Red Wings baseball team and its predecessors. The material covers the years from 1877 to 1994. It includes team rosters, statistical material on individual players and teams, photocopies of articles and books on the Red Wings and other Rochester baseball teams, and a few items of ephemera.

This collection consists of three boxes and four volumes, arranged in a single series:
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donated to the Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library alongside a large collection of books on baseball history. The donor stated that the material came from his uncle, who planned to write a history of the Rochester Red Wings but never did so. Unfortunately, the Friends and Foundation did not obtain any information as to the identity of the creator of the collection.
