Biographical Note
This collection documents the activities of members of two generations of the Fellows family of Lyons, New York. John E. Fellows was born in 1822. A successful farmer, he lived with his wife Laura until her passing in 1897. John E. lived on until September 10, 1910. John E. and Laura had three sons together - Charles, George F. and Frank. George F. was born in 1859, and married Grace H. Brundage in 1892. They had five children: daughters Leah, Mariam, and Harriett; and sons Edward and George, Jr. George F. ran a farm along with a commission merchant business. He lived in Lyons until 1920, when he moved to the city of Rochester. He passed away in Rochester in 1940 at the age of 81.
Frank Fellows was born of John E. and Laura on August 2, 1861. He married Anna Vandercook of Rose, New York on January 1, 1889. They had four children together who survived to adulthood: Ethel, Helen, Laura and Howard. Together, they operated a farm near Lyons until roughly 1929. Frank was also involved in local politics, the Humanity Lodge of Masons and the local Methodist Church. Upon retirement, Frank and Anna moved into the village of Lyons. Anna passed away in Pasadena, California on November 14, 1942, while staying with Ethel. Frank lived on until he passed away in Lyons' Cherry Street Nursing Home on March 24, 1949.
Edward Fellows was born about 1824. Very little is known about him. He may have been the brother of John E. Fellows, and definitely operated a farm near Lyons, as the D. G. Beers Atlas of Wayne Co., New York of 1874 shows their forms across the road from one another. Otherwise, little is recorded of him. He appears to have died sometime in the 1890s.
