Biographical / Historical
Riley Stevens was born on March 17, 1812, to Henry and Jerusha Stevens of Vermont. His early life is unknown, as is the date of his marriage to his wife Frances. They had 4 children together: William, Emma, Frederick and John . By the 1840s, Riley Stevens was in New York, but the date of settlement in Canandaigua is also unclear. Regardless of the exact timing, he established a brokerage business and engaged in real estate across central New York. He was also elected a notary in Canandaigua multiple times in the 1860s and 1870s. Riley Stevens passed away on April 23, 1890, and is buried in Canandaigua's Woodlawn Cemetery.
