Content Description
This is an artificial collection consisting of printed sheet music and scores, most but not all associated with Rochester, New York. Most appear to come from older materials held by the Rochester Public Library and transferred to the Local History Division for preservation. The materials date between 1843 and 1964.

Administrative History
Rochester, New York has a long musical history, including a once substantial music publishing industry. This collection brings together sheet music and music scores of works by Rochester composers, published by Rochester printing houses, or otherwise connected to the Rochester area. A small part of the collection constains non-Rochester music that has been deemed appropriate for preservation.

Variable, most items are on coated paper and physically sound. Some have broken spines. A few are photocopies of originals.
