Administrative History

The Association of City Employees was born of the success of the employees' committee for the Rochester Sesquicentennial in 1984. As a result of that committee's work, the decision was made to create a permanent association for City of Rochester employees to promote social and recreational activities. The organizatio was officially announced on July 28, 1986, and adopted a formal constitution on November 19, 1986. Regular meetings and events occured over the following year, including the formation of an employee choir, City Spirit. The materials in this collection end in early 1988, and further information on the Association of City Employees has been difficult to locate. A reference in the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper suggests it still existed in 1990, but that is the only post-1988 reference that has been found.
