Biographical Note

Emma Pollard Greer was born in 1856 to Henry and Eliza Pollard of the then-village of Charlotte. Her father was a blacksmith. Emma graduated from the Rochester Free Academy in 1877 and the State Normal School at Geneseo in 1881, returning to Charlotte to teach school until her marriage to Frederick H. Greer in 1904. She later served as a Greece correspondent for both the Rochester Times-Union and Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. A noted authority on the history of Charlotte, Emma Pollard Greer is best remembered for her History of Charlotte, published in 1930. She passed away on May 30, 1944.
