Biographical / Historical
The firm of Hungerford and Irwin manufactured files in Rural Hill, New York, a hamlet in Jefferson County south of Sacket's Harbor. Other information on the company has been difficult to locate. It is possible that the business was connected with Philo Hungerford, who was the proprietor and Post Master of Rural Hill starting in 1849. However, this cannot be proven.
