Content Description

This collection consists of personal papers of George Lusk (February 6, 1911-December 26, 1997), who served as Town of Chili Supervisor, Deputy Monroe County Clerk, and Monroe County Historian among other positions during many years in politics. The materials in this collection mostly come from his time as County Historian; some items, mostly photographic prints, represent other periods in his career. The materials include original and reproduced documents, books, ephemera and photographic prints. Materials in this collection date between 1914 and 2014.

Biographical Note

George Kenneth Lusk was born on February 6, 1911 in Pittsford, New York. A resident of Chili from 1946 onward, he made his career there as a contractor while also getting involved with Republican town politics. Lusk was appointed to the Chili Zoning Board of Appeals in 1950 and played a major role in developing the town building code in 1952. From 1952 to 1956, he served as Chili’s building superintendent and inspector before being appointed as town highway superintendent in 1957. In 1959, and with no prior experience in elective office, Lusk was appointed Chili Town Supervisor by the town board. He served as supervisor for most of the 1960s. In 1969, he became Deputy County Clerk and was also appointed as the Monroe County Historian. He served in these roles until 1974. Following the end of his political career, Lusk worked as an auctioneer and appraiser. He passed away on December 26, 1997, and is buried in Grove Place Cemetery.

George Lusk married Velda Luella Davidson in 1931. They had two sons together, Bernard and David. Lusk was active in the fire service for much of his life; his 50-year tenure with the Chili Fire Department culminating in its presidency. He also was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the Northfield Masonic Lodge of Pittsford, and the Empire State Arms Collectors Association.
