Biographical / Historical
Avis Bliss was a Rochester native that was well known in the creative and artistic communities. Avis graduated from the University of Syracuse with her undergrad and Columbia University with her graduates. She and her husband Homer lived together in Pittsford for 40 years. She was known for her vast contributions to her respected communities. Avis taught at the former Mechanics Institute which later became the Rochester Institute of Technology as well as worked on curriculum for the Rochester Board of Education. She was also an instructor and member of the curitorial staff at the Memorial Art Gallery. Avis also did research for the Campbell-Whittlesey and Stone-Tolan houses as well as volunteer with the Landmark Society of Rochester. She unfortunately passed away in 1989, survived by her husband Homer and her daughter.
