Biographical / Historical
The Home Defense League of Rochester N.Y. was founded in 1917 with the cooperation of the Mayor at the time. The league consisted of men who were unable to join the regular armed forces during World War 1. By the end of the war, Rochester had emassed eight companies with roughly about four to five hundred men. The defense league helped out the military during the time by helping with recruitment, food rations and bonds, censuses, and more. The league was disbanded shortly after the war was finished.
