Biographical / Historical

Elias Pond was born in Castleton Vermont in February of 1804. His father Levi relocated the family from Vermont to Sweden New York. In 1834 Elias was elected sheriff of Monroe County, which caused him to move to the city from the town of Sweden. By 1859 Elias was appointed collector of the port of Genesee and by 1860 he was chosen to represent the city of Rochester in the assembly. Elias gradually retired from politics into his later years and would eventually pass away in January 1875.
