Biographical / Historical
Samuel D. Porter was born in Philadelphia P.A. to Samuel and Mary Porter in April 1808. Porter came to Rochester N.Y. in 1827 and worked as a clerk in his uncles book and stationary shop. He soon would marry Susan Farley and have her move to Rochester N.Y. from Maine. Both Susan and Samuel were known for their activity with the Anti Slavery movement and assisted with helping enslaved people escape to Canada. Samuel would pass away in March 1881 in Rochester N.Y.
