Ella King papers
Content Description
The collection consists of programs and photographs from the Genoa United States Indian School and correspondence between Ella King and her family while she taught at the Indian School in Genoa, Nebraska. Ella King and her sister Ada operated the King Seminary for Young Ladies and Children in Rochester, New York. When the Seminary closed, Ella moved West and taught in the Genoa Indian School.

Biographical / Historical
Ella King was Born in 1863. She and her sister Ada ran the Kings Seminary for Women and Children in Rochester, NY. After the seminary closed Ella King went out west and taught in an Indian school in South Dakota. Ada remained in Rochester where she tutored high school and college students. Ada, lived to be 100 and went back to school at the age of 80 at the University of Rochester where she studied English and Philosophy.
Ella's father Moses Bradford King, was a prominent Rochester druggist. His grandfather Gideon, was a pioneer in Rochester and moved here in 1797 before the city even had it's name. He founded the settlement Kings Landing.
The Genoa Indian School where Ella taught was a boarding school. The school was founded by the Office of Indian affairs. The school was used to teach "Western Ways."
