This collection consists of Jamie and Sally S. Whitbeck's personal collection of ImageOut programs and ephemera. Jamie and Sally served as volunteers with the ImageOut Festival from 1993 until the 2010s. The majority of the material consists of festival guides with listings of the films and showtimes for each year of the festival from 1993 until 2019 with the exception of 2018. Other material consists of published anthologies, ephemera, correspondence, newsletters, and news clippings. Also included are programs for LGBTQ+ plays performed in the Rochester area from 1985 to 1997.

Biographical / Historical

Jamie Whitbeck was a dedicated ally of the LGBTQ+ community for many decades. In 1993, he was invited to help start the ImageOut Film Festival. Jamie and his wife Sally Stahlbrodt Whitbeck served as a volunteer with the festival for more than 20 years. Jamie died in January 2025.

ImageOut, the Rochester Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival, presents LGBTQ+ arts and cultural experiences showcasing films, other creative works and artists to promote awareness, foster dialogue and build community. Established in 1993 under the auspices of The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and The Rochester Lesbian and Gay Political Caucus, ImageOut presents film screenings, film series, juried art exhibitions, a literary journal, and an annual film festival featuring LGBTQ+ artists and themed works. ImageOut has operated continually since 1993.

Series III: Volunteer Information, Newsletters, Correspondence, and Ephemera, 1985-2022

Series IV: News Clippings, 2007-2020
