Biographical / Historical

Image Out was established in 1993 by the Gay Alliance of Genesee Valley and the Rochester Lesbian and Gay Political Caucus. As the years went on the Image Out festival grew significantly exhibiting over 100 films, and becoming its own independent non profit in 1996. Only becoming more popular the festival grew from 2 venues in 1993 to 5 in 2001. Their numbers reached a massive breakthrough in 2001 with a record attendence of 8500 and 43 different programs, solidifying its title of the largest lesbian and gay film festival in Upstate New York and the second largest lesbian and gay film festival in all of New York State. Image Out is still functioning and active going into the 2020s.
