Biographical / Historical

Rufus H. King was born in Rensselear county N.Y. in October of 1820. He studied law at Wesleyan University before being admitted to the bar in 1843. He was elected as an Opposition candidate to the 34th congress in 1855 and served until 1857. After serving Rufus continued to practice law and was president of the Catskill National Bank from 1865 to 1867. He entered politics again in 1860 as a presidential elector for the Republican ticket, and delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1868 and 1880. Rufus passed away in July of 1903 and is currently buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rochester N.Y.
