Administrative History
Originally this organization was named "Coalition for Protection of Children" (CPC) until October 1977, the organization was renamed to the Children's Alliance of Monroe County in order to avoid confusion with other advocacy organizations. There is very little information of the organization prior to 1977.
The Children's Alliance of Monroe County was an organization dedicated to raising public awareness of child mistreatment and abuse. The organization was completely volunteer operated, and reliant on grants and donations for support. It regularly held benefit events for its support. In turn, the organization sponsored child abuse workshops and advocated for improved public child welfare services. The organization's later years are difficult to reconstruct. Newspaper records show that the years of this collection coincide with the origins and peak activity of the group. However, annual benefit concerts continued until 1989, despite no other records of post-1984 activity being found.
The Children's Alliance hosted many events such as the Inter-professional One Day Institute (1981) and the Foster Cline Conference (1984) that raised awareness of child abuse and trauma. The organization held monthly and annual meetings at Downtown United Presbyterian Church and the Al Sigl Center where they identified problems with Rochester's social-work, child care services, and other legislation concerning the welfare of children.
