Pin depicting a U.S.A. flag and German Empire flag. "Welcome Reception Rochester Turn Verein, Oct. 10, 08" is printed on the pin. According to "https://www.brittannica.com, "turn verien," was a German gymnastics club, emphasizing calisthenics, citizenship and cultural programs. According to "GermangirlinAmerica.com," the first National American Turner Organization formed in 1850. At its height Turn Verein had close to 50,000 members. The name was changed to Turners in 1930's to distance the organization from associaltion wiht the Nazi Party., 1908 - 1908

This collection consists of late 19th Century and early 20th Century pins related to Rochester New York. The material was collected by L. Warren Patterson of Spencerport, New York. The collection consists of pins and medals related to Rochester businesses, clubs, fraternal organizations, schools, special events, political campaigns, and veterans organizations. Other kinds of ephemera are also found in the collection, such as a shoehorn. Many of the pins were also manufactured in Rochester.
