The name "Leon Patterson," written in cursive, appears on the flip side of the pin According the website, "https:morningsonmaplestreet," the Board of Education was responsible for issuing badges to newsboys. Boys were issued permits after registering and obtaining a badge for twenty-five cents. Most boys never bothered to register and often skipped school to work.
