Grove - Incidents, Bikes/Dogs, 2008-2011
Scope and Contents
Washington Grove is an old-growth forest on the east side of Cobbs Hill, a major glacial landform in southeastern Rochester. Under Mitchell's leadership, the Sierra Club undertook to preserve and restore this urban woodland. Partnering with the City of Rochester's Parks Department, beginning in 2011, invasive species were removed and trails blocked to any form of wheeled vehicles. This caused some amount of friction with both neighbors of the Grove and people accustomed to using the Grove for mountain biking, but the project ultimately did succeed in bringing attention and resources to this threatened woodland.
