Scope and Contents
This series documents the activities of gay and lesbian student organizations across Upstate New York during the early 1970s. The majority of the materials relate to the Gay Alliance at the State University of New York in Albany (SUNY Albany) from 1971 to 1973. These materials include handwritten notes regarding club activities, correspondence, membership rosters, policy statements, student publications, flyers, pamphlets, and news clippings.
Topics include: press releases and event flyers for the Gay Alliance at SUNY Albany, policy statements by the Gay Activists Alliance, the Gay Liberation Front of the Tri-Cities, and the National Gay Community for McGovern campaign; correspondence with activist Barbara Gittings, SUNY Albany faculty, the Syracuse Gay Freedom League, and the Oswego Gay Group; an annotated copy of the SUNY Albany Women's Liberation Front constitution; and an issue of the Gay Freedom Leage News listing upcoming events for the Rochester Gay Liberation Front. Publications include: clippings from the Albany Student Press; issues of Purple Rage (undated), the Empty Closet (Fall 1971), the Good Vibes Gazette (Spring 1989), the Gay Lib News/Gay Freedom League News (Volume 1, Numbers 4-8), and Gay Flames Pamphlets (No. 1 and No. 3); a pamphlet titled Songs of Gay Liberation, a pamphlet of frequently asked questions about homosexuality published by the Rutgers Student Homophile League, and a pamphlet titled Homosexuality and the Church published by the Mattachine Society of the Niagara Frontier.

Biographical / Historical
The materials in this series were collected by Mary Guhin, who was a student at SUNY Albany from 1971 to 1975. In 1972, she served as the conference coordinator for the Gay Women's Weekend sponsored by the Women's Coalition of the SUNY Gay Alliance. She earned a master's degree from Cornell University from 1975 to 1977. After moving to Rochester, she worked at Xerox from 1991 to 2007. She worked at Trillium Health from 2015 to 2018.

Abstract
This series consists of the papers collected by Mary Guhin of Rochester, New York. The materials date between 1971 to 1989 with the bulk of the materials dating between 1971 to 1973. The materials consist of notes, correspondence, flyers, pamphlets, member directories, publications, and news clippings documenting the activities of the Gay Alliance at the State University of New York at Albany.
