Scope and Contents

This series contains the papers of James "Jim" Ide, an activist affiliated with the LGBTQ+ community in Rochester, New York. The materials date between 1972 and 2019 with the bulk of the material dating between 1977 and 1979. The materials consist of a disbound scrapbook documenting Ide's advocacy as a member of the Rochester Gay Task Force, including materials documenting Ide's work advocating for the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley's Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) grant and materials documenting speeches Ide delivered to religious organizations in the Rochester area to promote understanding and tolerance for lesbians and gays. Also included are various news clippings on topics of interest, including articles relating to the LGBTQ+ community and the attempted assassination of Gerald Ford. The materials consist of correspondence, writings, pamphlets, conference proceedings, and news clippings.

Biographical / Historical

James "Jim" Ide served as president of the Rochester Gay Task Force during the 1970s and was active in the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley in the 1980s. By 2019, Ide had moved to Williamsport, Maryland. Additional biographical details are unknown.

Abstract

This series contains the papers of James "Jim" Ide, an activist affiliated with the LGBTQ community in Rochester, New York. The materials date between 1972 and 2019 with the bulk of the material dating between 1977 and 1979. The materials consist of a disbound scrapbook of correspondence, writings, pamphlets, and conference proceedings.

Arrangement

Materials were removed from a three-ring binder and inventoried by the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley prior to donation. An additional folder of correspondence was arranged chronologically and added to the collection. Materials have been retained in the arrangement received from the Gay Alliance from the Genesee Valley.
