Scope and Contents
This collection documents the events, people, and issues of the LGBTQ community in Rochester, New York and nationally. The materials date between 1954 and 2019, with a bulk of the materials dated between 1975 and 1997.
The collection was donated by the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and consists of documents that were collected or held in their archive for the Shoulders To Stand On documentary. It also consists of advertising and page layouts for the Empty Closet. The collection consists of small collections of papers from people involved in the LGBTQ community, whether through activism, clubs, or support of the Gay Alliance. The series titles are predominately names of the people that donated the materials to the Gay Alliance. The topics covered in the collection cover the AIDS epidemic, Gay Alliance picnics, discrimination, and activism. The collection also contains audio-visual materials, t-shirts, and other ephemera.

Biographical / Historical
Laurence "Larry" Champoux served as the festival chair and producer for the Rochester Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival sponsored by The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and The Rochester Lesbian and Gay Political Caucus. The Rochester Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival would continue as the Rochester ImageOut Film Festival in subsequent years.
The first festival took place in October 1993. The festival included 18 programs and 100 films and videos and focused upon celebrating and documenting the past and present of the global lesbian and gay community. Each show attracted almost 90% of the theatre's capacity.
