Scope and Contents

This series documents the activities and interests of John Altieri, former Board President of the Gay Alliance of the Gensee Valley, Rochester, New York and involved with AIDS Rochester.

Altieri's collection focuses on prevention and education around sexually transmitted diseases, Hepatitis C, MSM Project, AIDS testing, and his AIDS Rochester board participation and includes periodicals, articles, brochures, pamphlets, and flyers. The series also consists of audio-visual materials (DVD's, CD's and VHS tapes) on HIV/AIDS. Altieri also collected t-shirts from events for the "Night of 100 Parties," "The Quilt," and "The Rochester Lesbian and Gay Caucus."

Biographical / Historical

John Altieri was a former Board President of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley. Altieri has been involved in AIDS prevention and community health initiatives since 1984, when he served as the co-chair of the Rochester Area Task Force on AIDS. Altieri participated on the AIDS Rochester board of directors.

Abstract

This series consists of the papers collected by John Altieri, former President of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley Board of Directors in Rochester, New York. The materials date between 1973 and 2014, with a bulk of the materials dated between 1985 and 1998. The materials consists of reference articles on the AIDS epidemic, Hepatitis B, and sexually transmitted diseases. The series also contains pamphlets, flyers, brochures, and reports of AIDS prevention, safe sex, STD's, and AIDS awareness. Included in the series are also t-shirts and audio-visual materials.

Processing Information

This series was arranged by the archivist in alphabetical order for ease of use. The folder titles are original titles on the folders. The "Miscellaneous" folder consists of loose papers and was devised by the archivist.
