 File — Box: 2, Folder: 23-25

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection consists of 16 scrapbooks created by Rochester, New York based Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary David J. Kauffman Post 41. The materials date between 1954 and 1990. The materials consist of scrapbooks that include newspaper clippings, photographs, newsletters, correspondence, event programs, memorandums, resolutions, by-laws, and meeting minutes.

The scrapbooks document the activities of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary from 1954 to 1990. The activities that the Auxiliary participated in were holding ward meetings, Chanukah, Passover, and other holiday celebrations at the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center. They also held parties and events at the Mary Cariola Children’s Center and other children’s day cares around Rochester, New York. The Auxiliary participated in Memorial and Veteran’s day services, assisted with Post 41 Commander’s Dinners, and held an annual Mother and Daughter Dinner.

The scrapbooks also document the organizations functionality. They include meeting minutes, presidential reports, by-laws, resolutions, newsletters, and national and state level conventions.

The scrapbooks were put together annually by an appointed organization historian. The earlier scrapbooks were put together using tape to hold items. Over time, the tape has become brittle and the adhesive is no longer working. The scrapbooks that are missing from this collection are; 1963-1965, 1969-1970, 1947-1978, and 1987-1988.
