This small collection consists of 50 letters and envelopes written to Martha (Mattie) Burns from relatives and friends. Only a few were written by Mattie, who was a nurse living in Rochester, New York before and after World War II.

Biographical Note

Martha (Mattie) Burns was a nurse living in Rochester, New York before and after World War II. She surrounded herself with family and friends and busied herself with work, knitting, and other activities. She had one sister, Margaret Burns and one brother Jack Burns. Jack Burns passed away in 1963.
