The Bachman/Bossert family photographs contains materials related to the Bachman and Bossert families of Rochester from the 1910s. It consists of 14 photographs, 3 postcards and 1 marriage invitation from the Bachman or Bossert families. The families became interconnected through the marriage of Leo Bossert and Catherine (Rhena) Bachman in 1913.
Materials in this collection were received as part of a transfer of mulitple photograph collections from the Irondequoit Public Library to the Rochester Public Library in 2018. They were received with no contextual or donor resources, and only two items in the collection include textual content and dates. The identities of people in the photographs is unknown, and the information about the creators of the collection is inferred from those two objects.
The Bachman/Bossert family photographs includes materials created by or related to the Bachman and Bossert families of Rochester. Both families lived near Portland Avenue and Bay Street in the early 20th Century, and became intertwined when Leo Bossert married Catherine (Rhena) Bachman in 1913. The photographs and postcards in the collection are unlabeled, and may pertain to either or both families, while a marriage invitation included in the collection establishes its provenance.

Biographical / Historical
At the time of his daughter's marraige, Leander Bachman (a German immigrant) resided at 3 Irondequoit St. in Rochester. This address was also home to his business, a blacksmith shop called L. Bachman and Son. His daughter Catherine (Rhena) was born in 1888. In 1913, she married a Leo Bossert, a tailor who immigrated to Rochester from Alsace-Lorraine. At the time of the marriage, Bossert lived only a block away from the Bachmans, at 48 Hollister Street. Leo and Catherine would go on to have 4 children together. Leo passed away in 1937, while Catherine passed in 1951.
