Administrative History

The Harvard Club of Rochester was founded on March 20, 1908 at a meeting of Harvard alumni held in the Powers Hotel. George C. Buell was elected president, and Dr. Robert C. Cook, vice-president. The club sought membership from all Harvard alumni in Rochester, along with promoting the foundation of a university club in the city. Isaac Adler, the prominent Rochester attorney and civic leader, was a Harvard alumnus and spent many years in leadership roles in the club. The Club also began sponsoring a scholarship for local students to attend Harvard in 1911. The Club has continuously provided social opportunities for Harvard alumni, support to Harvard athletics, and scholarships for Rochester-area students since that time. Lectures on Harvard and on topics of general intellectual interest have also been sponsored regularly, along with visits to Rochester by Harvard Glee Club and the Hasty Pudding Club. The Harvard Club of Rochester continues to operate today (2020).
