Condition Description

The scrapbook itself is in poor condition. The binding was failing and the pages brittle and weak. The boards and spine are in fair condition; weak but intact. The cards are in good condition, and are soundly pasted to the pages.

Processing Information

This scrapbook was donated in poor physical condition. While someone had interleaved the pages with acid-free tissue, the pages were deeply tanned and brittle. Most of the pages had split from the binding, and those that remained bound were stressed by the poor binding design. For preservation, the entire textblock was removed from the case, interleaved, and placed back into the case. The binding itself was removed. The ornate case is in good condition and has been preserved intact.
