Biographical / Historical

Edith was born in New York City to Dr. Frederick Llewellyn Hovey Willis and Love Maria Whitcomb in February 1865. She was educated in Boston Massachusetts in private institutions until she was 18. In 1886 she married her first husband Dr. Samuel Henry Linn in NYC, and the couple moved to his permanent residence in Rochester N.Y. She would marry again in 1918 to George Mather Forbes, who was a faculty member with the University of Rochester. She was very well known for her poetry, and being the founder of the Rochester Poetry Society which was founded in 1920. Edith would pass away in September 1945 in her families summer home on Seneca Lake.
