Consists of an artificial collection of individual letters purchased or potentially donated to the Library. These letters were found in the library stacks. Some letters contain proof of purchase and some do not.

Biographical / Historical

Some of the more prominent figures included in this collection are as follows:

Charles Perkins was born in 1792 in Norwich Connecticut. He is known in Rochester N.Y. for being one of the founders of Mechanics Institute in 1830, which eventually became the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Thomas Kempshall was born in 1796 in England. After moving to Rochester N.Y. Kempshall was elected to the board of Alderman in 1834 and then went on to become Rochesters 4th Mayor from 1837-1838.

W.M. Alling was born in 1811 in Milton N.Y. Alling is known in Rochester N.Y. for founding the Alling and Cory paper company in 1834.

Dr. Henry S. Durand was born in Cincinnati Ohio in 1861. Durand made a name for himself in Rochester N.Y. for his work in the medical field.
