Content Description

This collection consists of two bodies of material. First, there are scripts, research notes, and images collected for tours that Schuler created related to the history of the Maplewood neighborhood and Maplewood Park. Second, Schuler served as an unofficial photographer for Rochester's 2001 Horses on Parade public art project, connecting with the artists to document the horses' creation and to record many of them on display. The collection includes hundreds of both photographic prints and negatives documenting the creation and public display of the fiberglass horses. Also included is a signed and dedicated copy of official book on the topic.

Biography

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Hal Schuler graduated from Scranton Central High School and went on to higher education at the University of Scranton and at West Virginia University. Eventually relocating to Rochester, New York, he was employed for thirty years as an analytical chemist with the Eastman Kodak Company. His work has been exhibited in galleries and has been archived in the Ruth T. Watanabe Special Collections in the Sibley Music Library at Eastman School of Music.
