Content Description
Consists of 8 disc records of the earliest out gay musicians such as, Chris Robinson, Lavender Country, Meg Christian, Michael Cohen, Paul Wagner, and Steven Grossman. The collection also includes two photographs both of Bruce Jewell. Jewell, founder and host of Green Thursday (radio program on WCMF) and host of Lesbian Nation radio program.

Biographical / Historical
Bruce Jewell was a well known LGBTQ activist from Rochester, N.Y. He was one of the founding members of the Gay Alliance of Genesee Valley and is also known for hosting the first gay broacast on commercial radio in 1973. Green Thursday discussed an array of topics about LGBTQ lives, news, lifestyles, and so forth. Bruce also alternated with another gay radio show called "Lesbian Nation" which was hosted by Patti Evans. In 1974 Bruce stepped down as the host of Green Thursday and handed it over to Robert "Bob" Crystal.
Meg Christian is an openly gay american folk singer from Lynchburg, VA. Meg was born in Tennessee in 1946 but moved to Virginia at an early age. Her music career spanned well into the early 2000s. Her last album was released in 1995. The album included in the collection is "I Know You Know" which was released 1974.
Michael Cohen was a gay folk musician from N.Y.C. He only released three albums during his musical career, which were some of the first musical albums to feature explicitly gay themes. Michael would pass away in 1997 from complications with AIDs. Michaels album "Mike Cohen" was released in 1972 and his album "What did you expect?" was released in 1973.
Steven Grossman was a gay folk musician from Brooklyn, N.Y. Grossman was not only famous for his music but also being one of the first musicians to release an album with gay themes and subject matter on a major record label. His album "Caravan Tonight" was released in 1974 on Mercury Records. Grossman was also known to be friends with Michael Cohen. Grossman would unfortunately pass away from AIDs complications in 1991.
Lavender Country was a gay american country band from Seattle, Washington. The band was founded by Patrick Haggerty, Michael Carr, Eve Morris, and Robert Hammerstrom. They produced the first known gay themed album in the U.S. in 1973. Over the years the band has had members come and go but Haggerty was the only original member still in the band. Haggerty would pass away in 2022 from complications of a stroke. The band has disbanded since. Lavender Country's self titled album was released in 1973.
Chris Robison was a gay American musician, recording artist, and songwriter from Wellesley Massachusetts. During his career Robison would go on to tour with bands like: The N.Y. Dolls, Steam, Velvet Turner Group, and Elephants Memory. During his solo career he would produce two albums. Robison would unfortunately pass away in 2021.
Paul Wagner was an openly gay American musician born in 1949. Not much information is available about Paul. Paul passed away in 2024.
