This collection consists of CD-R copies of the audio files from Green Thursday, a pioneering gay radio program broadcast on WCMF in Rochester, New York, from 1972-1975. The audio files in this collection date from 1973 to 1975. Some of the recordings are of the radio show; others represent interviews and field recordings later used in the show.

Permission to publish, reproduce, distribute, or use in any current or future manifestations must be obtained in writing from the Rochester Public Library Local History and Genealogy Division. Intellectual property rights to the Green Thursday radio program are retained by WCMF-FM, and any use of this material for commercial purposes will need to be cleared with WCMF or its corporate heirs.

Biographical / Historical

Running from 1972 to 1975, Green Thursday was the first radio program in the United States exclusively dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. Broadcast over WCMF FM in Rochester, the program included both local and national news, along with interviews and field recordings from LGBTQ+ events. Bruce Jewell and Bob Crystal were the primary hosts, though other individuals hosted select episodes.
