This collection is comprised of the personal papers, letters and correspondence of Daniel Paris Allen. Also included are military pay vouchers from Allen's military service during and after the Civil War. Of particular historical interest are some of the vouchers that bear the signature of Ulysses S. Grant. Includes records from the United States' Army Commissary of Subsistence and "Sketch of the Life of John C. Jameson" (contains information on extended family history).

These papers were the gift of Mrs. Della (Mrs. Leland) Somers, Allen's granddaughter. Allen was married to Joseph Harris' sister, Annie. Harris was the founder of Harris Seeds of Rochester, a firm with a national customer base.
