This collection comprises of documents concerning the formation and incorporation of the gas and electric companies in and around Rochester, publications (such as newspapers and newsletters), as well as photographic prints of the company's day to day business. It also includes correspondence pertaining to the payments to and administration of Citizen’s Gas Company, the Rochester Railway and Light Company and the Rochester Gas and Electric Company. Also included are diagrams and maps pertaining to the daily operations.

The collection was given to the Office of the City Historian by Rochester Gas and Electric's (RG&E) Tom Schwartz, and was donated to them by Linda Zahn in 1998, the daughter of Linn Bowmen, who before his retirement serves as the general superintendent of RG&E's gas division and had served as Vice President to the company.
