According to "mcnygenealogy.com," in the article titled, "The Third Ward and its Cornhill Historic Preservation District," by 1831, under the leadership of the first regular pastor, The Reverend Thomas James, a church site at the northeast corner of Spring and Favor streets, had been obtained, and a small one-story, wooden structure was completed and occupied as a church edifice (p.32)." Replaced in 1879, and 1907, The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, became the foremost Black church in Rochester, serving as a spiritual and activist community.
