Abstract The Mary A. Paris Papers document the beginning of (white) Girl Scouting in Rochester. Mary A. Paris founded the first Girl Scout Troop in Rochester (Troop 5) in 1918 at the Third Presbyterian Church, where she was director of religious education. Paris remained involved with the Rochester Council of Girl Scouts into the 1930s.
